DESCRIPCION El curso aborda en profundidad el concepto de "capital social", los principales enfoques teoricos construidos en torno a el, las investigaciones mas relevantes y formas de medicion que se han desarrollado para su estudio. La revision incluye analizar las contribuciones fundacionales del concepto, los distintivos enfoques teoricos existentes actualmente, y los metodos de medicion y estudio empirico del capital social. II. OBJETIVOS 1. Conocer y manejar las principales teorias y perspectivas del capital social, incluyendo los aportes fundacionales a la formulacion del concepto, y los principales enfoques que actualmente estudian el capital social en Sociologia. 2. Comprender las formas que ha adoptado la medicion del capital social, examinando en especifico su metodologia y estrategias de operacionalizacion. 3. Analizar un conjunto de investigaciones que estudian el capital social (sea como variable independiente, dependiente o interviniente), que cubren diversas tematicas de estudio. 4. Analizar el estado de avance de la investigacion del capital social en relacion a Chile (y Latinoamerica en general) y estimular el desarrollo de aplicaciones de lo estudiado en el curso al caso chileno. III. CONTENIDOS 1. Antecedentes del concepto en la teoria sociologica. 2. Los aportes fundacionales de Bourdieu y Coleman. 3. Los trabajos de Robert Putnam. 4. El capital social como recurso utilizado a traves de redes sociales (network-based social capital). 5. El capital social como confianza, normas y cuerpos cognitivos. 6. Capital social y desarrollo; redes a escala societal y relaciones intra-inter grupos. 7. Medicion de capital social en redes sociales. 7.1 Medidas de redes egocentricas. 7.2 Medidas Sociometricas. 7.3 Instrumentos especificos. 7.3.1 El Generador de Nombres. 7.3.2 El Generador de Posiciones. 7.3.3 El Generador de Recursos. 8. Medidas de capital social relacionadas con participacion social, asociacion y compromiso civico. 9.
