I.   DESCRIPTION

     The course presents students with basic notions in the philosophy and theory of literary and linguistic research
     methods. It provides an overview of research techniques for collecting data, analyzing and writing academic
     essays in the literary and linguistic fields and lays the basis for tackling the research process successfully.
     Finally, the course is also designed to guide students in finding and appropriately using a wide range of
     secondary sources to support and discuss their analytical and critical response to a literary/linguistic text.


II.  OBJECTIVES

     1.     To write to various audiences and for various purposes (e.g., to inform, to persuade, to communicate
            findings of a research.
     2.     To plan and managing short- and long -term writing projects.
     3.     To draft, designing, revising, and editing documents.
     4.     To write collaboratively (e.g, co-authorship, peer editing).
     5.     To design documents (e.g, layout, formatting, incorporating graphics/visuals into documents).
     6.     To write ethically and responsibly as a professional and as a member of society.
     7.     To use technology to aid communication in the academic context.


III. CONTENTS

     1.     Epistemological orientations and methodological approaches to the study of literature and linguistics.
     2.     Analysis of academic genres in literature and linguistics.
     3.     Academic writing process in literature and linguistics.


IV.  METHODOLOGY

     -      Lecture-like brief introductory sessions.
     -      Class work (written exercises, workshops).
     -      Peer review sessions.
     -      Individual work and/or individual tutoring.


V.   EVALUATION

     -      Portfolio (class-work practical exercises).
     -      Two major assignments (with at least one draft each).
