I.   DESCRIPTION

     The course is aimed to analyze through case studies the general principles and exceptions that govern
     international trade, in the context of the World Trade Organization ("WTO"). In addition we shall review
     current issues affecting international relations and the economy.


II.  OBJECTIVES

     1.     To comprehend the importance of International Trade and the different International Organizations
            who participate in this area.
     2.     To analyze the historical context and the evolution of the WTO within the context of the North-South
            Divide.
     3.     To understand the fundamental principal of global trade, and international relations.
     4.     To show greater understanding of political, social, and economic issues that have dominated the news
            in the past several years.


III. CONTENTS

     1. Introduction to International Trade and Economics and the role of the WTO.
            1.1    WTO's case for open trade.
            1.2    Introduction to the WTO and the different aspects of the international organization.

     2.     Principles and Exceptions that govern Global Trade through the analysis of the General Agreement on
            Trade and Tariffs.
            2.1    Most Favored Nation and Tariffs.
            2.2    National Treatment.
            2.3    Exceptions.

     3.     Economy and current issues.
            3.1 Study current political, social and economic issues.

     4.     Analysis of current cases that from a political, social and electoral view have an impact to the issues
            detailed in 1, 2 and 3 above.


IV.  METHODOLOGY

     -      Lectures from the professors.
     -      Analysis and debates of jurisprudence.


V.   EVALUATION

     -      Class participation through debates.
     -      Analysis of cases.
     -      Final exam.
